Restoration Tips

Rust Removal by Electrolysis
Here's an electrolysis article in PDF format I wrote about removing rust - easy and safe process.
If you're having a hard time finding Arm and Hammer Washing soda, you can also use PH Plus from Walmart's pool supplies. The main thing is to use Sodium Carbonate.

Modern Replacement Floats
Don't use your old cork floats as is with new alcohol-laden fuels, as the alcohol will disolve the shellac coating leaving your carb gummed up and the float sinking as it absorbs the gasoline. Some folks will recoat the floats with model airplane fuel resistant dope or instant glue (cyanoacrylate) but I prefer an alternative.

Sierra Marine makes a Mercury equivalent float which is made from solid fuel resistant foam and can be reworked for many old outboards with just a little effort. The Sierra part # 18-7208 can be found at NAPA and many other locations. I've personally used it on Mercury KE4s and Evinrude Zephyr's with success.
