Layout Outboards
This page is the start of a layout format that I'd like to standardize across the wiki for consistency's sake.
Use H1 format for the header on top, followed by a line, as shown above. Basically change "Layout" to the brand name.
Then below that I'd like a concise single paragraph about the the company or brand if it's a small history. If it's an extensive history, a more detail narrative can be linked to on it's own BrandHistory page.
History
LayoutHistory
Either a couple of paragraphs, or a wiki link to the history page for this company or brand. Be sure to use the BrandHistory format in creating the name to be consistent.
H4 for sub Headings seems to look right
Followed by an underline to help give plenty of white space. Text by default is left justified, photos can either be left justified if they're very large, or centered if smaller - seems to look OK there, and there is leeway so have fun.
Subjects we should look into covering, are owners manuals, technical specs, model tips, and/or any literature or photos of original motors or restored ones where possible. Avoid scans of text in favor of pure text so that it can be searched from the wiki Search box.
Stopping Spammers
Be sure to click on Edit ACLS at the bottom of any new page you create, and change the Comments ACL to a + so that spammers won't fill the page comments with junk.A word or three about Categories...
(Note: this can be confusing - at first don't worry about it, come back to it later.)At the bottom of each page, there should be at least one category which helps to locate related pages in the wiki. Categories can be confusing at first! Call or write me and I'll tell you more in plain English, otherwise here are some notes I'll try to explain. At the bottom of any page you create for a brand you'll put special CategoryBrand key words (substitute "Brand" for your Manufacturer or Brand). What this does is create a special tag that the wiki will keep track of.
To create a list of all the pages that have that tag in them, you need to create a special category page --click on the CategoryBrand link on a finished page to go to and create that page if necessary. Below is a block of code you can "grab" to start making your own category page. You can add extra text, but this is all that's needed to create one.
Category page text:
{{category}}
